What the sequence shows

The fourth frame is the one worth pausing on: 87.6 °C, against the 88 °C this device is set to trigger at. Four tenths of a degree short, and it has not started counting.

That 88 is a deliberate choice rather than the physical boiling point. Well before a full boil the water is already working hard enough to cook — so the timer starts there and the hob comes down. The threshold is settable anywhere from 85 to 102 °C; see how it works.

About these photographs

The screen in these shots still shows the project's original name and an earlier firmware build. The current release is PotWatch v4.0, which added the dry-pot alarm, the probe fault warning and the non-blocking sound engine.
